Each year at the Annual Electors Meeting, the Parish Council presents the environmental planning awards to residents, builders and architects for the best plans received during the year. The idea of the award is to recognise good design and the awards are made for projects that, in the opinion of the council, enhance the local area.
Nominations are made by Councillors from projects completed within the preceding calendar year. A committee of Councillors representing each ward of the Parish then prepare a short list which is voted upon by the full Parish Council.
The criteria by which projects are assessed are:
1) Visual appeal for the project.
2) Suitability for the location and surroundings.
3) Benefit to the environment in general or the parish in particular.
A “project” could be a new building or the restoration or renovation of an existing building. It may be residential, agricultural or industrial. Also eligible could be any feature such as a new road, a plantation of trees or any other subject which finds favour with the Parish Council. It is very likely that nominated projects will have previously come before the Parish Council for planning approval.
